Discovering Adulthood: The Hard Way

So there I was, fresh out of college, landed my first job, and got my first paycheck. Stupidly excited over my first taste of financial freedom, I decided to treat myself, as one would. Went to the store, grabbed a brand-new television I had my eye on, slapped my debit card down like I owned the place. Only for it to get declined. Twice. Embarrassed as hell, I left the store, checked my bank account and there it was. My paycheck sitting pretty, untouched. Called up the bank thinking it was a mistake. After what felt like an eternity, the lady on the other end tells me, "Sir, your card's not activated." I had been using my damn card for three weeks straight without activating it and didn't have a clue...and that folks, is how I discovered I wasn't quite as adult as I thought.
